The game

A tactical shooter in a browser tab

It's a first-person arena shooter built for nights in with friends. Open a link, make a room and you're in: two squads, GHOST and RAVEN, or every operator for themselves, on three original arenas. Bots fill the empty slots, so a match works with two people or eight.

  • No install

It runs in your browser tab. The arena's art downloads while the host is still picking settings, and the game picks a graphics level for your computer on the first visit.

  • Up to 8 operators

Friends, bots or both in one room. Share a four-character code or an invite link and your squad is in.

  • Bots with personalities

Rushers, stalkers, anchors, flankers and skirmishers. Bots crouch, peek around corners, play the objective and hand their slot to a friend who joins.

  • Tactical movement

Lean around corners, crouch behind cover, vault low walls and aim down sights. Every piece of cover stops rounds exactly where it's drawn.

  • 13 weapons

From the PP9 sidearm to the scoped Marksman Rifle, with fire modes, pickups and drops. Hold V for the weapon wheel.

  • Clear skies or rain

The host sets the weather. In the rain, surfaces turn dark and glossy, puddles ripple and the fog closes in, except under a roof.

  • Controller support

Play with an Xbox- or PlayStation-style controller through the browser, or keyboard and mouse. Every key and button can be rebound.

  • Shareable scorecards

When a match ends, one click on Screenshot saves a scorecard image with the result, the map and every operator's kills, assists and deaths. Paste it in the group chat.

  • Original soundtrack

Every note of the music and every sound effect is original, generated in code. The match music turns up for the last minute or a close score. This page's theme, “Facets”, was rendered by the game's own audio engine.

Modes

Seven ways to play

The host picks the mode, the score limit and a 3, 5, 10 or 15 minute clock in the lobby. In squad modes it's GHOST against RAVEN with friendly fire off.

  • Squads

    Capture the Flag

Take the enemy flag from their base and carry it home. Your own flag has to be at your base for the capture to count.

WinFirst squad to the capture limit (1–5).

  • Squads

    Team Deathmatch

GHOST against RAVEN. Every elimination adds to your squad's total.

WinFirst squad to the kill limit (10–50).

  • Squads

    King of the Hill

Hold the marked zone. Your squad scores a point every second it holds the hill alone; a contested hill scores for nobody.

WinFirst squad to the point limit (30, 60 or 120).

  • Squads

    Hostage Rescue

Both squads race for one neutral hostage. Reach it uncontested to become the escort, then bring the hostage to your squad's pad. If the escort falls, the hostage waits where they dropped.

WinFirst squad to the rescue limit (1–5).

  • Free-for-all

    Golden Gun

Everyone carries a gold pistol, and one hit eliminates, armor or not. Other weapons, mines and pickups are switched off.

WinFirst operator to the kill limit (10–50).

  • Free-for-all

    Deathmatch

Every operator for themselves. Grab weapons from the pads, keep moving and watch your back.

WinFirst operator to the kill limit (10–50).

  • Coming soon

    Covert Collection

A loot-and-shoot mode in development for the Slatewater prison arena: search the facility for weapons and gear and collect TOP SECRET files. Fall, and you drop the files you carry.

PlanHold the most files when time runs out. Not playable yet.

If the clock runs out first: in squad modes the higher score wins and a tie is a draw; in Deathmatch and Golden Gun the most kills wins, then the fewest deaths.

Maps

Three arenas

Every arena is 64 by 64 meters, with its own light and every mode, and plays in clear weather or rain. GHOST starts on the north side, RAVEN on the south.

Blacksite from above at dusk: the walled compound with its square central vault, corner rooms, sandbag cover and a low sun over the buildings. Dusk

Blacksite

An abandoned industrial compound. A steel-roofed vault holds the center, four lamp-lit corner rooms anchor the edges, and long open lanes run between them under a low sun.

Casino Stellar at night: two pink neon STELLAR pylons frame the marquee plaza and its fountain, with the CASINO STELLAR sign and the striped Stellar Tower lit up behind. Night

Casino Stellar

A fictional Las Vegas resort after dark. GHOST holds the hotel lobby and grand atrium, RAVEN the porte-cochère, marquee plaza and pool deck, and the casino floor sits between them under chandeliers and neon.

Lantern Quarter in late-afternoon sun: the fountain court with its four marble pools and tiled wall fountains, the domed Lantern Bedesten beyond, and the towers of the Lantern Gate behind it. Late afternoon

Lantern Quarter

A fictional corner of Istanbul's old city: vaulted bazaar lanes, a domed bedesten, a fountain court, a square under a great plane tree, a hammam and a tea terrace above the roofs, all in warm afternoon light.

Operators

Pick your operator

Six operators, from tactical gear to a business suit. In squad modes your color stays on the armband and name tag, so a suit still reads as GHOST or RAVEN. Your first-person arms match your pick, and a change made mid-match takes effect when you next respawn.

Portraits are rendered by the game itself. Until you choose, you get an automatic operator for your slot; bots pick their own.

Arsenal

Thirteen weapons

Every weapon carries its own Diamond Spectre name. Everyone deploys with the PP9 Pistol; the rest wait on pickup pads around the arena and come back 20 to 40 seconds after someone takes one. Headshots do double damage, and every gun loses some punch at range.

Sidearms first, then primaries from close range to long, then the gadget.
WeaponClassRole
PP9 PistolSidearmThe pistol everyone carries. Semi-automatic, eight rounds, unlimited spare magazines.
Ironbark .357SidearmSix-shot revolver. Two body hits or one headshot drop a target out to about 38 m; wide from the hip.
Midge MPSidearmFull-auto machine pistol. Deadly up close, wild past a few meters.
Twin Hammer Sawed-offPrimaryDouble barrel. Both barrels together eliminate inside 4 to 5 m and do little past 10 m.
Breakwater Auto-ShotgunPrimarySemi-automatic shotgun, eight shells loaded one at a time. Two shells drop a target out to about 8 m.
Riot ShotgunPrimaryPump-action. Two shells drop a target out to about 8 m; weak past 11 m.
Wren PDWPrimaryFifty-round PDW with the best hip-fire in the game; full damage to 15 m.
Kite-9 SMGPrimaryFast, tight submachine gun with full damage out to 25 m.
Graywing C14 CarbinePrimaryFull auto or three-round burst. Steadier than the KR-7 and stronger at distance.
KR-7 RiflePrimaryFull-auto rifle with the fastest automatic kill up close; full damage to 35 m.
Halberd BullpupPrimarySemi-auto or two-round burst. Accurate, with full damage to 45 m; slower to aim and draw.
Marksman RiflePrimaryScoped bolt-action. One headshot or two body hits, with full damage to 120 m.
Prox MinesGadgetProximity mines that stick to any surface and go off when an enemy walks past. Up to three placed at once.

Loadouts

The host picks the rule. Arsenal lets you carry everything you pick up. Tactical limits you to one sidearm, two primaries and mines, and you swap on purpose with G.

Weapon wheel

Hold V, the middle mouse button or Y on a controller to see every gun you carry with its ammo, then point and release. The match keeps running while it's open.

Drops

A fallen operator drops the gun in their hands with the rounds it had. Walk over it to take it; it stays for 45 seconds.

Squad up

Play with friends

Rooms hold up to eight operators. There's no matchmaking and no sign-up: you share a code with the people you want to play with.

  1. Make a room

Open the game, type a codename and choose Create room.

  2. Share the code

Your room gets a four-character code, like C8LU. Send it to your friends, or press Copy invite link in the lobby: the link opens the game with the code already filled in.

  3. Friends join

They enter the code and press Join. Bots can fill the empty slots, and each one steps aside when a friend joins.

  4. Set up and deploy

The host picks the map, mode, limits, clock, weather, bots and loadout, then presses Start match. Click to deploy, or press A on a controller.

The game's staging area for room C8LU: the three map cards with Casino Stellar picked, Capture the Flag with 3 captures to win and bots filling to 6 operators, and three operators on each squad, GHOST and RAVEN.
The staging area: the room code, the map cards, the match settings and both squads. See the whole panel, operator picker included.

Playing solo? Create a room, set bots to fill 2, 4, 6 or 8 operators and start. Bots play every mode, objectives included.

FAQ

Questions

Is Diamond Spectre free?

Yes. It's free to play in your browser, with nothing to buy and no account to make.

What do I need to play?
  • A desktop or laptop computer.
  • A recent version of Chrome, Edge or Safari. The game draws its 3D graphics with WebGL 2, which current versions of these browsers support.
  • A keyboard and mouse, or a controller.

On your first visit the game runs a short graphics check and picks Low, Medium or High for your computer. You can change the quality, render resolution and field of view, and turn on a frame-rate counter, in Settings → Graphics.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

No. Diamond Spectre has no touch controls, so you need a computer with a keyboard and mouse or a controller.

Does it work with a controller?

Yes. Xbox- and PlayStation-style controllers work through the browser. Connect the pad, press a button with the game open, set up the room with the mouse, then press A or Menu on the deploy screen. Every button can be rebound in Settings → Controller. Controller play is new; if your pad misbehaves, please report it.

How many people can play together?

Up to eight operators per room, bots included. The host can fill the room to 2, 4, 6 or 8 operators with bots, or turn bots off for humans only. A friend who joins takes a bot's place.

Do I need an account? What's stored about me?

There are no accounts. You pick a codename, which the other players in your room see. Your codename, settings and operator pick are saved in your own browser, and a room is deleted within ten minutes of everyone leaving.

The game won't load. What can I try?
  • Use the direct server link; it's the same game.
  • Update your browser, then reload the page (hold Shift while reloading to skip the cache).
  • If the frame rate is low, open Settings → Graphics and try Low quality or a render resolution of 85% or 70%.
How do I report a bug?

Email bugs@diamondspectre.com and tell us:

  • what happened, and what you expected to happen;
  • the map and mode, and roughly when in the match;
  • your browser and computer (for example Chrome on Windows), and whether you used a controller.

A screenshot helps. During a match, hold Tab and press P to save a scorecard image, or use Screenshot on the results screen.
